There certainly has been a rumor that Roomba is tracking house maps and then selling them. This iRobot is designed to vacuum clean your home and in doing so, it has to go from one room to another. It is obvious that the device is keeping a track of your house since, after every cleanup, it shows a ‘Clean Map Report’. Is the cleaned-up house map being sold further without the permission of the owner?
The CEO Colin Angle thinks otherwise, as he said, “it can be sold only by the permission of the user. He further shared his plan by stating that already, iRobot’s Roomba can easily be accessed using Amazon’s voice assistant, ‘Alexa’. In March, they have planned that the iRobot will be associated with the “Three Big Enterprise” i.e., ‘Apple’, ‘Amazon’ and ‘Google’.
“iRobot are extremely serious about the privacy and security of its customers. We are going to take the permission of our customers to even store maps data. Right now, iRobot is building maps to enable the Roomba to efficiently clean your home. In the future, with your permission, this information will enable the smart home and devices within it to work better. For example, in order for the lights to turn on when you walk into a room, the home must know what lights are in which rooms.”

Now that you have read the remarks made by the founder of the device about privacy and security infringement, so if you are getting a clean report, then it implies that you have already given permission.
How to get rid of these reports?
Simply follow the steps:
- Go to the iRobot application.
- Look for option ‘More’.
- Under this option, you will find the ‘Setting’ option.
- Go to ‘Toggle Clean Map Report’
Here are a few online remarks that are made by the company representatives on the queries made by the iRobot users.
We would like to clarify that iRobot has no intention of selling your data. The reports are made and saved in the company’s data. The reports can be easily deleted upon the request of the customers over a phone call. They also said that they haven’t sold any map data to third-party so far. In the future also, we will ask the customers’ approval before selling.
Specifically, about ‘Clean Map Reports’, they are not shared with anyone except the users, and that too, if they have opted the service. We cannot make any comment on Amazon’s product. If you have opted Alexa’s voice assistance along with your iRobot then, you can simply disable the setting.
