Prevent replacing the expensive battery of your Roomba iRobot and keep cleaning your floor with it for a longer period of time by implementing the handy tips.
The battery is the heart of the Roomba device that is placed next to the brushes behind the screwed-in plastic square.
For your information, we want to mention that Roomba is powered by a 12NiMH battery that is equivalent to one GN nickel-based battery. According to the iRobot experts, the battery is fully charged can run for almost 2 hours and doesn’t need replacement before 400 charges.
Depending on the care or maintenance, you may need to replace it much sooner than the defined time. So, if you want to use the battery to its maximum potential and don’t want to spend a huge sum of money on its replacement, then here are some tips and tricks you can follow.
Clean the brushes: When you clean the floor, Roomba picks up some debris and dust that gets caught in the brushes. If the debris keeps on building in the robot, the brushes will start spinning slowly and start consuming more battery as more power is required to make the wheels rotate. Clean the brushes once in a week.
Charge and use it on a routine basis
Unlike smartphone lithium-ion batteries, you need to charge the nickel-based Roomba battery on a daily basis no matters you are using it or not. Try to vacuum your house on alternate days to keep the Roomba in working condition. This will also enhance battery life.
Drain the battery
Another tip for maintaining the battery’s capacity is by draining it more frequently. For this, you can turn on the Roomba and keep it running until the battery dies. Now, charge the battery to full and repeat the same process again and again.
Keep it cool
To maximize the battery life of your Robotic Roomba, you must place it in a cool or dry place after use. If you left it in direct sunlight, then heat could damage its parts and battery. Also, try to keep the unit away from heat-producing gadgets like microwave, oven and refrigerator.
Configure the vacation mode
If you are going for a vacation, don’t forget to put the Roomba in ‘Vacation mode’. This is the pre-defined mode in the Roomba. This will help in keeping the battery health maintained even if not being used for weeks. You have the option to schedule the Vacuuming task on your Roomba. In this mode, the Roomba will start cleaning automatically on defined time.
To enable the vacation mode, make sure that the battery is fully charged. Remove the battery now by flipping the cover from the back of your Roomba hardware. For more information related to the unscrewing of Roomba, you can watch the video available online.
Keep the battery in a cool and dry place and after returning from vacation, you can assemble it again and run until it completely exhausted.
